The name garnet comes from the Latin word “granatus” which means “resembling the seeds,” as they are commonly found in the form of a seed in the rock.

Garnet definition is a stone grouped into nesosilicate mineral, and it actually has very rich color range even to the colorless stone. Garnet looks brilliant because its lusters considered waxy or vitreous, and that is why the colors can look so deep. After being treated, the red garnet can show deep luster. This is why red garnet is popular for jewelry in ancient and classic times. Garnet stone even appears in various epic poems, mythologies and ancient artifacts.

In fact, garnet mineral was use by people in Bronze Age as abrasive mineral. Otherwise, garnet often appears in jewelry items used by ‘barbaric’ conquerors that conquered Ancient Rome civilization, such as on engraved bracelets, arm rings and rings. Even now, garnet mineral is still used by carpenters for wood abrasive, as well as in water filter system.
